Kayak overturns, man reported in grave condition

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a male kayaker is in grave condition after his craft overturned in waters near Tacoma, Wash.

Key Peninsula Fire Chief Tom Lique tells The News Tribune two men in their late 20s were kayaking in an area called Pitt Passage when their boat overturned Monday evening.

One man reached shore and called for help.

Rescuers pulled the second man from the water. Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer says he was taken to a Gig Harbor hospital in grave condition. Troyer says the man was in the water for about an hour.
