Man killed, woman wounded in Maple Valley shooting

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) - King County sheriff's detectives have released a Maple Valley property owner after questioning him about shooting two suspected burglars.

A man died at the scene and a woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. She was shot once with a handgun.

King County sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West says the resident called 911 about 4 a.m. Friday to report he heard people and banging noises. He called back to say he shot two people who were trying to break into a cargo container.

Detectives are recommending the woman be charged with burglary.

West says the 66-year-old homeowner was not hurt. She says he has previously reported thefts and burglaries on his property where he has several sheds on about 10 acres.
