Spokane-area man, 83, rescued from trench collapseApril 5, 2013 @ 9:26 pm
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Fire officials in Spokane Valley, Wash., say a woman dug with her hands to give her 83-year-old father room to breathe after a trench collapsed on him. Then she called 911.
A fire department statement says the side of the 6-foot-deep trench collapsed on the man Friday as he was installing a residential sewer line at his home, burying him in dirt up to his chest.
It took fire department rescue crews nearly an hour to free him.
Fire officials say medics took the man to a local hospital but he didn't appear to have any serious injuries.
