Daughter's boyfriend accused in attack on mother

GIG HARBOR, Wash. (AP) - Police in Gig Harbor, Wash., say a 91-year-old woman is recovering after her daughter's boyfriend reportedly tried to smother her with a pillow.

Lt. Kelly Busey tells The News Tribune that the woman passed out briefly during the Tuesday attack. The man left and she called for help when she regained consciousness.

Police say the attack wasn't reported until Thursday, when they arrested a 47-year-old man. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of attempted murder.

Busey said Friday the motive is unclear.

Police say the elderly woman and the man were the only ones in her condominium at the time of the attack. They say she was sitting in a reclining chair.

Gig Harbor is near Tacoma.
