Man arrested near UW pleads to federal chargesNovember 26, 2013 @ 11:22 am
SEATTLE (AP) - A 22-year-old Nevada man arrested near the University of Washington with six Molotov cocktails and maps of three college campuses has pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Justin Miles Jasper pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle to possession of a destructive device, possession of a stolen firearm and transportation of a stolen vehicle.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for each count. But a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office says a plea agreement recommends a penalty of three years in prison plus three years of probation for each charge.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 20 before U.S. District Judge Ricardo Martinez.
Jasper was arrested July 3 near the UW campus in Seattle in a truck he had reportedly stolen from an acquaintance in Butte, Mont. Police say he also had body armor and a video in which he said he wanted to make sure people understood protests taking place in Brazil.
