Wash. man dies body surfing off Oregon coast

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (AP) - State Police say a 56-year-old man body surfing off the central Oregon coast has drowned.

The man was identified Thursday as Kerry Eugene Bamford of Pasco, Wash.

A friend told officers the man was about 100 yards out and trying to swim back to the beach Wednesday evening when the friend lost sight of him.

Onlookers called 911, and a fire and rescue crew sent out two personal watercraft. The man was unresponsive when they found him.
