Lacey council votes to ban plastic bags

LACEY, Wash. (AP) - The Lacey City Council voted 4-3 Thursday night to ban the lightweight plastic bags typically used at grocery stores.

The Olympian reports ( http://bit.ly/MRm3Gt) the ordinance takes effect July 1.

About a dozen cities in Washington have banned plastic bags, including Olympia, Seattle and Bellingham.
