Police arrest suspect in fatal Everett shooting

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Detectives arrested a suspect in Tuesday night's fatal shooting in the parking lot of an Everett motel.

Police believe 37-year-old Heath Mitchell was selling drugs out of a motel room and fled after the shooting. He was tracked down by detectives who served search warrants at several locations overnight. He's jailed for investigation of related offenses.

The gun that was apparently used in the shooting was found by a police dog.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner identified the dead man as 39-year-old Robert James Scott, Jr. of Everett. The Daily Herald says Scott was last released from prison in August.
