1st meeting set to discuss firearm policy

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Gonzaga University says it will hold its first meeting to discuss the school's ban on firearms on December 3rd.

The meeting comes after a recent incident in which two students displayed a handgun while confronting a home intruder. That is against policy because they live in a university-managed apartment. The two students have been placed on probation.

The current policy bans weapons on campus or at any university residence. But Gonzaga officials have said they are re-examining that policy in light of the incident.

The meetings are closed to media and the public.

Students Eric Fagan and Dan McIntosh this week appealed their probation, in part on the grounds that the university only leases the apartment building where they live. Gonzaga has said the firearms ban covers property it manages.
