Yakima council OKs 3 homeless shelters for winter

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - The Yakima City Council voted Tuesday to allow three temporary shelters this winter for the homeless.

The shelters will be located at churches and operated by the Sunrise Outreach group.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/1aEhN1b) the city negotiated an agreement for the shelters with homeless advocates. One of the conditions calls for wireless smoke detectors that can be monitored from a central location.
