Execution date set for Tacoma killer Cecil DavisNovember 22, 2013 @ 5:47 am
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A judge in Tacoma told Cecil Davis on Thursday he has until Dec. 1 to decide whether he wants to be executed by hanging or lethal injection.
And, Pierce County Superior Court Judge Ronald Culpepper set Dec. 17 as the date Davis will face the death penalty for raping and killing a 65-year-old Tacoma woman.
It's likely the execution date will be postponed. Deputy Prosecutor John Neeb told The News Tribune ( http://bit.ly/1bc2GT0) the defense team is expected to file another appeal.
The 54-year-old Davis was convicted of murdering Yoshiko Couch in her home in 1997. Two juries have said he should die. The first death sentence was overturned on appeal, but the second was upheld by the state Supreme Court.
