Heavy snow closes Snoqualmie Pass overnight

SEATTLE (AP) - Heavy snow and avalanche danger closed a 72-mile stretch of Interstate 90 overnight between North bend and Ellensburg over Snoqualmie Pass.

Transportation Department crews are waiting for daylight Monday before they could estimate when the interstate would reopen.

The department also says Highway 2 over Stevens Pass would be closed at times Monday morning for avalanche control. Meanwhile, chains are required on all vehicles.

Highway 12 over White Pass remains open early Monday with traction tires required.
