Once-buried Gresham man to return to trenchesMarch 19, 2014 @ 6:10 am
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A construction worker who was trapped for hours in the cave-in of a 12-foot deep sewer line is looking forward to returning to work -- even back in the trenches.
Twenty-one-year-old Danny Russu of Gresham was released from a Portland hospital Saturday and is recovering at home.
KATU reports (http://is.gd/gx1n7P ) he had surgery for muscle damage to his right leg and his eyes are still bloodshot from the pressure on his body.
It took co-workers about two minutes to dig out his head out of the dirt after the March 3 cave-in at the construction site in the Cedar Hills area of Beaverton. But it took more than three hours to free him from the trench.
He hopes to return to work when he's cleared by a doctor.
