King County deputy charged with felonies fired

SEATTLE (AP) -- King County Sheriff John Urquhart has fired a deputy accused of promoting his estranged wife's prostitution, stealing ammunition from the department's gun range and selling steroids.

Darrion Holiwell was charged last month with three felonies, including promoting prostitution, theft and a drug violation. The 49-year-old pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, and remains in King County jail with bail set at $150,000.

Urquhart said Tuesday that Holiwell doesn't deserve to be a police officer because he violated the trust of his fellow deputies and citizens.

The sheriff says criminal and administrative investigations continue.

Holiwell was a 19-year veteran and member of the SWAT team. He was placed on administrative leave in April.
