Spokane dog tied to fence in heat found deadJuly 15, 2014 @ 6:40 pm
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- A Spokane County animal protection agency says one of two pit bulls tied to a fence without water or shade was found dead Tuesday.
The second dog was suffering from heat stress. Temperatures have been in the 90s and 100s.
The Spokesman-Review reports (http://is.gd/xAci3v ) that the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service has launched an animal cruelty investigation against the owners.
SCRAPS field operations manager Nicole Montano says while her agency has gotten a dozen reports of animals confined in hot cars, this is the first time this season that a dog has died tethered to a fence.
SCRAPS says the owners reportedly tied up the dogs the previous night and were inside their home. An animal protection officer found the animals Tuesday afternoon. The owners were allowed to keep the second dog if they took it to a vet for treatment.
A Pullman man was arrested Monday for investigation of second-degree animal cruelty after three animals were found locked in his hot truck. A kitten had to be euthanized.
