3 West Coast governors oppose offshore drillingJuly 31, 2014 @ 3:36 pm
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- The governors of California, Oregon and Washington state say they don't want the possibility of any oil drilling off of the west coast.
Govs. Jay Inslee of Washington state, Jerry Brown of California and John Kitzhaber of Oregon sent the letter to U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewel to formally state their opposition to any oil or gas lease sales. The department is currently developing an updated plan for its Outer Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program.
Inslee spokesman David Postman says that while there currently aren't any west coast leases, the governors want to ensure none are included in the new plan.
