Spokane thunderstorm knocks out power to thousandsAugust 3, 2014 @ 3:12 am
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- A strong thunderstorm in Spokane County knocked down trees and powerlines and left thousands without power.
The Spokane Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/1AM41KM ) Saturday night's storm in the northern parts of Spokane and Spokane County also sparked many brush fires.
Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich (kuh-NEZ-oh-vich) says all available resources in Fire District 4 were used against the blazes as well as resources from other districts.
Knezovich says the largest blaze was a two alarm brush fire, but no size estimate is available.
Utility companies said that more than 50,000 customers were without power at one point.
The storm blew through less than two weeks after another strong storm in the same area cut power to nearly 60,000 customers.
