    Obama's likes high prices
I understand Obama and the Democrats liking high gas prices now that cap and trade is dead. His comment about trading in your SUV and buying a Government motors car shows where he stands. However, this is gonna kill business in rural areas where there is no public transportation. Being tourism dependent for many areas will result in a rural depopulation. The Fed's and states should consider dropping gas taxes in rural areas so that tourism does not totally collapse. After all, it was their policies that said tourism would be the salvation of rural areas.

    Really? You're blaming the President?
Why do so many idiots flock to the Republican party? Do you all really think the American people forget where this all started? Do you really believe the ENTIRE American Public has forgotten where this started? For those of you idiots that can't remember 4 years ago... I'll fill you in, Gas prices rose to unprecendented levels under the Bush Administration, followed by one of the deepest recessions in US history. The current adminstration took over during the Crisis, since that time the Economy has actually recovered a lot of it's losses and Gas prices fell for quite some time, they've risen recently, but if you are going to sit here and blame the Obama administration for the Mess that Bush left, i don't want to hear it, and neither does the American people, unlike you crazy S.O.B's we can remember 4 years ago.

blah blah Bush, the American people blah blah blah Bush, the bed was on fire when I laid down in it so I poured gasoline on myself and oh Bush made me do it. All Bush's fault. I can hear you whispering in the ear of your grandchildren "better eat all your vegetables or BUSH will get you!".

    Sorry Cbrew
Sorry but the democrats controlled the house and senate under Bush and spent money they didn't have. Who do you think pushed the banks into lending to buyers that had no business getting a mortgage. The banks were threatened with fines if they didn't loan to these people. Barney Frank was the chief architect of the housing collapse. Yes, Bush got us into wars we had no business in so there is plenty of blame for both parties. The question is can the village idiot we have now fix the economy or not? I DON'T THINK SO!!! He couldn't run a profitable lemonade stand. I think Romney will be able to help the economy much better and sooner than the current administration. I just wish the Republicans were not all such religious nut jobs!!! My kingdom for just a plain old fiscal conservative who will stay out of everyone's bedroom!!!

Gas is a dollar less a gallon in the rest of the country, I guess Obama is consiring to short supply in just the PNW. And this refinary maintenenace crap is garbage. Its not a free market, its not supply and demand because there is no competition. Slow down a refinary and drive up price .... but this is the deregulated no rules wallstreet world that the right wants, so stop blaming obama.

    Obamas solution
"It's time to trade you vehicle for a gas saver". Really, these were his own words, so between high property taxes, rising cost of health insurance, rising gas prices, just go buy a new car. "HOPE & CHANGE"!

The price of gas is high because the US dollar is worthless. As in even the Canadian dollar is worth more. I guess closing down the Gulf and refusing to allow a pipeline to Canada have nothing to do with it.

What do you mean "even" the Canadian dollar? As if Canada has something to be embarassed or ashamed of? If you think that, you are an arrogant and ignorant person.

Lonestar - that makes no sense
It's all relative, the dollar has weakened but the price of gas has risen a LOT faster than the cost of inflation, if it followed inflation we'd be looking at Gas prices in the 2 - 2.50 range.

    EVIL RICH STRIKE AGAIN
Is that all the Democrats have? I mean really. They state that not drilling for oil reserves and shutting down gulf coast drilling have zero effect on prices but evil rich guys who trade in commodities are to blame. Obama's energy dept director stated he would like to see $4 gas so alternate fuel looks more competitive. At least they changed their tune enough not to blame Bush again. Come on ladies, come up with a new excuse will you? This one is getting too old.

Since when did Republican's decide they get to re-write history, Go back and do your research, The prices initially jumped to record levels under Bush, and once that happened you think those greedy oil companies really have any incentive to go back to what it was? they know we'll pay the cost.

Yes, thats true....and its even uglier than that.
Speculation always drives up prices and its the oil producers that are often behind the speculation. This has already been very well covered folks. Somersetting to consider folks - The Saudis announced today that they are cutting production because they say the market is over supplied. Another thing to think abotu, oil prices surged after the disruption Lybia who produces 3% of the worlds oil, before that it surged when Egypt demonstrated with 4% of the worlds output. Guess where Amrica gets 90% of its oil? 1. Canada @ 80%, the rest of the list looks liek this... 2. Mexico 3. Saudi Arabia 4. Venezuela 5. Nigeria 6. Angola 7. Iraq 8. Algeria 9. United Kingdom 10. Brazil........thats right, not a drop of US oil comes from Lybia, yet thats the excuse we are given for the speculation. The only fix is to take oil off the commodity market.

    Operation " Canadian Freedom "
Watch for that a couple years down the road. 60 minutes did an article on oil sands in Alberta, and apparently Canadians are thinking they can flex their political and economic muscle. I have news for them, we will send Cruise Missiles into Edmonton, B-52 strikes on Calgary, a massive land invasion, kill a couple hundred thousand of them, then we will rebuild their province, put the people in the Canadian Govt that we want, and declare victory.

That was what was behind the high prices 3 years ago.
Why should it be any different now? What you got is a host of extremely wealthy players making bets against each other using the world market as a game board. No president can do anything about it as long as oil is traded as a commodity, thats just a fact, the only tool a president has is the SOR, and releasing form the reserve will just make others cut production. It takes congress to act, the senate to regulate and the president to enforce legislation to stop the gutting of thew American people...but as long as politicians get their election donation money from big oil that will never happen. In fact the Supreme courts decision last year to allow companies to give unlimited funds to candidates only re-insures that nothing will ever change, THATS WHY WE NEED TO MOVE OFF OIL, Just like President Obama is suggesting. So stop blaming Bush and Obama. They cant do jack!
