GORST, Wash. (AP) - The Navy says the driver who died when his SUV crashed into Sinclair Inlet was a 25-year-old sailor from the USS Ronald Reagan.

The Washington State Patrol identified the man as Roger B. Hartley of McRae, Ga.

The State Patrol says the SUV suddenly veered off Highway 3 near Gorst about 6 a.m. Friday, glancing off another car, and crashing through a fence into the water where it sank.

The driver was underwater for some time before he was pulled out by rescuers. He was given CPR and taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton where he was declared dead.

The San Diego-based aircraft carrier Reagan arrived in Bremerton in January for a yearlong overhaul at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
