US military deaths in Afghanistan at 2,091

(AP) - As of Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at least 2,091 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan as a result of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to an Associated Press count.

The AP count is one less than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

At least 1,732 military service members have died in Afghanistan as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

Outside of Afghanistan, the department reports at least 124 more members of the U.S. military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Of those, 11 were the result of hostile action.

The AP count of total OEF casualties outside of Afghanistan is four more than the department's tally.

The Defense Department also counts three military civilian deaths.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, 18,535 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_Two soldiers died May 16, in Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device; they were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Fort Juan Muna, Guam; killed were: Sgt. Eugene M. Aguon, 23, of Mangilao, Guam, and Spc. Dwayne W. Flores, 22, of Sinajana, Guam.

_Sgt. 1st Class Trenton L. Rhea, 33, of Oakley, Kan., died May 15, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, after drowning while attempting to cross a body of water during combat operations; assigned to the 603rd Military Police Company, 530th Military Police Battalion, 300th Military Police Brigade, 200th Military Police Command, Belton, Mo.

_Four soldiers died May 14, in Sanjaray, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device; killed were: Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, 29, of Hesperia, Calif., assigned to 766th Ordnance Company, 63rd Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, Fort Stewart, Ga.; Spc. Mitchell K. Daehling, 24, of Dalton, Mass., Spc. William J. Gilbert, 24, of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Pfc. Cody J. Towse, 21, of Elk Ridge, Utah, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

    Their favorite investment, halliburton is doing well, thanks to bush and cheney who got us into this deadly war. Hopefully, Obama and his level headed cabinet can overcome this "investment" by the republicans and get us out of any more wars. Certainly halliburton will suffer on the stock market but they have made billions from American taxpayers supplying the republican war machine with over priced commodities ranging from tanks to toothbrushes. Want to know what halliburton charges the U.S. Govt. for a toothbrush? $28.00. Yes, I can pick one up at Rite Aid for .99cents. You republicans probably don't know about half of the corruption of your party, probably don't care either. You won't have to worry about it for at least 12 years, anyway. Good riddance.

    You would actually not only agree with voting against the afghan effort, but defunding it? I thought conservatives thought that was unsupportive of our troops and America-hatin' and all that. And not only that, you would actually PRAISE a democrat for voting that way?
