Budget and spending measures at a glance

(AP) - Congress moved on several fronts Thursday advancing budget and spending measures for this year and beyond.

CATCHALL SPENDING BILL

Funds the day-to-day operating budget of Cabinet agencies through Sept. 30 but leaves in place across-the-board spending cuts of 5 percent to domestic agencies and 8 percent to the military. Eases a "readiness" crunch at the Pentagon, among myriad budget changes. Cleared the House for President Barack Obama's signature.

HOUSE BUDGET PLAN

Updated GOP budget for 2014 and beyond from Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. Nonbinding but sets out Republican vision for balancing the budget in 10 years, through $4.6 trillion in sharp cuts to safety-net programs like Medicaid and food stamps and domestic programs like education, agriculture and law enforcement. Proposes eliminating "Obamacare" health subsidies and leaves $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts in place. Passed House on 221-207 vote.

SENATE BUDGET PLAN

First Senate Democratic budget in four years. Nonbinding but proposes to increase taxes by $975 billion over 10 years and cut spending by $875 billion over the same period _ yet uses $1.2 trillion of those anti-deficit steps to repeal automatic spending cuts required by Washington's failure to follow up 2011 budget and debt pact. Cuts deficit to below 3 percent of gross domestic product, producing annual deficits in the $400 billion-$500 billion range. Vote expected late Friday or early Saturday.

    unfortunately we may
feel these cut's. Reading a previous artical I learned a new term, Washington Monument Syndrome. A deplorable political tactic the politicians often employ when trying to blame the other guy. They will make cut's that make the biggest and most visible impressions on the public instead of finding a way to re-prioritize and skim the fat. We may feel these cut's but only because democrates want us too, because many still believe this was the republicans fault and not informed enough to know it was the White House's failure to lead and democrats failure to follow through with their promises. Also overlooking the fact that sequestor was Obama's Idea. It was an to attempt to gain leverage to increase tax's, which he got. Know he uses this to blame republicans because they won't raise more tax's.

    "...not good enough..."
I'll tell you what's not good enough. The explanation that cutting $85 billion from an $3.66 trillion annual spend rate (remember there is no budget) is to have such terrible economic results but that the stimulus had to be ten times the $85 billion to be the least bit effective. Some still argued that the stimulus was too small. Many don't realize we've spent the stimulus in '09 initially, then again in '10, '11, '12 and now in '13 were on track to do it again.

    Voting in the budget cuts
It isn't fair that hard working employees are forced to take a 20% pay cut to satisfy their bosses lack of concern and ability to act upon a situation. Sadly most of the workers that this affects will not write their congresswoman(man) or Representative and let them know how it affects them. Without a response our elect thinks things are okay. I urge everyone thatNOT EMAIL their senators and congresswomen(men) right away and let them know how these cuts will affect you and your family.
