Flight attendants protest new policy on knives

WASHINGTON (AP) - The vice president of a flight attendants union says a new policy that would allow airline passengers to carry small knives is "outrageous."

Sara Nelson, vice president of the Association of Flight Attendants, says they have to deal with "unruly passengers every day." She says flight attendants are an aircraft's "last line of defense," and says the new rule puts them "in a much more dangerous position."

On Tuesday the Transportation Security Administration announced a policy change that would allow airline passengers to carry small knives, souvenir baseball bats, golf clubs and other sports equipment onto planes, beginning next month.

Appearing Thursday on NBC's "Today," Nelson said the policy change "cannot stand." She says even small knives can be deadly weapons.

    Interesting that small knives will be ok but unopened cheese spread is still a no go.

    Announced this to all the frighin whack jobs out there? Does anyone find it strange that this happened right after Obama threw his little tantrum about the Sequester??? Kinda like releasing 20,000 illegal criminals back into society. This administration his hell bent on hurting its citizens. Pay attention people. Obama wants to phuckk things up before he's done.

    a 2 inch blade can stab and bleed out an artery just as fast as a box knife....maybe faster because it's more blunt....bigger hole. This whole thing is ridiculous... take away my white grandmas 1/2" needle point scissors.....but let a middle easterner on with an underwear bomb...that's okay. HELLO!!! RACIALLY PROFILE!!! DUH!!!!
