Ethics committee investigates Reps. Young, Andrews

(AP) - The House Ethics Committee says it is forming special panels to investigate Reps. Don Young, of Alaska, and Rob Andrews of New Jersey.

One panel will examine whether Young, a Republican, broke House rules by failing to report gifts on his annual financial disclosure forms and by lying to federal officials. Another panel will look at whether Andrew, a Democrat, broke House rules in his use of campaign funds.

Young's ethics case was referred to the committee by the Justice Department. Andrews' came via the Office of Congressional Ethics.

The committee says the newly formed investigative subcommittees will determine whether the lawmakers violated the House's code of conduct.

The committee, in its statement, says the establishment of the subcommittee does not indicate that any violation had occurred.
