Obama heads to EuropeMarch 23, 2014 @ 6:56 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has departed for a European trip that will be dominated by the West's dispute with Russia.
Obama left Washington Sunday night on an overnight flight to the Netherlands. The president will hold two days of meetings with other world leaders at the Nuclear Security Summit.
But a geopolitical crisis with Russia is casting a shadow over Obama's visit. The president will discuss the matter Monday with China's leader and at a hastily arranged meeting of the Group of Seven leading industrial nations.
The U.S. and Europe have deemed Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine a violation of international law.
Obama will also visit Belgium, Italy and Saudi Arabia during his weeklong trip.
