New details in Auburn mystery; victim identified

Aug 29, 2014, 11:55 AM | Updated: 12:14 pm

Police have identified a victim in the mystery case of bloody clothes and flooring found along Peasley Canyon in Auburn nearly three weeks ago.

The Washington State Patrol crime lab ran a DNA test through the State Combined DNA Index System.

The match identified the victim as 30-year-old Brandon Shane Zomalt. Police say he has connections to Puyallup and other surrounding areas.

They’re asking the public for help finding Zomalt’s associates in hopes of determining what happened on Aug. 13. Auburn tip line: 253-288-7403

While a significant amount of blood was discovered alongside the road, police say they have not recovered a body.

The bloody flooring and clothing were discovered when an off-duty federal agent driving by saw a fire, stopped with his extinguisher, and saw a dark SUV speed off.

Auburn Police Commander Mike Hirman says the agent tried chasing the suspect, but lost him and called police.

A suspect is described as being a possibly mixed race male in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5’8” – 5’10” tall, with a thin build and short dark hair.

Hirman says the agent tried chasing the suspect, but lost him and called police.
