Divers have recovered the body of a man who drove a stolen car off a dock and into the water Wednesday night.
Seattle Police and Fire officials spent Thursday morning attempting to recover a man who they believed drowned after he drove the car off a dock and into the water.
Rescue teams were called to the Ship Canal, near the 1000 block of W Ewing Street late Wednesday night after receiving reports that a Nissan Sentra had driven off a pier.
Authorities said they saw a man in the water, calling for help but he refused to grab a rope that was repeatedly thrown to him and pushed an officer away who tried to rescue him.
The man then went under the water. Police and fire department divers searched the canal for more than an hour, but were unable to find the man.
Police said Thursday they believed the man was driving a car that was stolen from the Phinney Ridge neighborhood Monday.
The man’s body was transferred to the King County Medical Examiner’s office.
