Joe Biden debate

The Left thinks Biden won because he was rude

I was reading some columns in Slate and Politico this morning in which liberals were ecstatic that "Joltin Joe Biden" wiped the floor with Paul Ryan. Roger Simon opined, "Biden smirked, sneered, and openly laughed at many of Ryan’s responses. It could have looked rude, but Biden made it look tough."

Really?

I thought it made him look childish, small, rude, and diminished his office. It was as though he watched the infamous Gore vs. Bush debate and thought, "That big sigh behind Bush was a master stroke!"

Columns on the left are relishing in the attacks on Ryan because it's how they feel. They WANT him attacked. They want a big fight. They believe this is the kind of thing that Obama should have been doing last time around.

They're wrong.

I can't imagine non-political voters--those not engrossed in the horse race, but endure it to perform their civic duty every 2 to 4 years--will see this rudeness as a plus.

In 2008 the Obama promise was of a new era of Hope and Change that would herald a new tone in Washington. If the 2008 campaign were a fruit it would be a fruit from Eden, promising paradise. Four years later, the fruit has proven that while it was beautiful to look at, it was poor to consume. And Biden's performance exposed a rotten core with his rude laughter like the buzzing of flies around the carcass of what might have been.

My primary issue with Romney is not taking a hard look at defense cuts - probably one of the easiest of all budgets to scrutinize and clean up...

I believe that is what psychologists call "projection".

Eventually the Democrats will face their "meet Spock moment."
For fellow nerds it's when Spock is questioning that Vulcan woman in "Star Trek 6." He says, "What you want is irrelevant. What you have chosen is at hand!" Eventually the music will stop and the Chinese won't have a chair for us.

Does that mean we have to raise taxes by letting the Bush tax cuts expire, cut entitlements and yes, even cut the military?

Reading it, it was a draw
both told a few stretchers. Most of which I've heard multiple times from the various blogs and commenters. I was sincerely disappointed with the discussion regarding Libya. I used to depend on the (D) side (or at least the media) to give a @&*! about these sorts of things. Now it's only a problem because it's being discussed. So, we should just all shut up and let the grown ups handle it? Unreal.

As I said, in another post I am very glad I didn't watch it - I would have been mortified to see our VP act like that on National TV and I sure as heck hope he doesn't talk to world leaders like that.

Second place has never been a draw. Its second place.
When second place is last place, it means you lost. Its just true.

I think that many reviewers completely missed the mark on this debate
I thought this was a debate from a VP point of view and a guy who would be VP point of view so I watched it in that perspective. Now, everyone knows that the VP does a lot of things but the ONLY thing that the Constitution mandates as a job requirement is to be the presiding officer of the Senate. Or, as Sarah Palin famously said, the "President of the Senate". So, voters should be evaluating a candidate's ability to do this job as a priority goal.

What I saw last night was one man who laughed and mocked, grumbled and insulted, badgered and belittled, and seemed determined to ignore any semblance of debate rules or decorum. And, I saw another man, who was respectful and polite, calm and direct, focued on policy that Congress and the Senate can address and who, if one took the time to listen through the constant interruptions, was promoting a budget framework that would allow the Democrats and Republicans work on cuts and adjustments together, rather than ramming a predestined plan down their throats.

So, for me, if the primary and Constitutionally mandated role of VP is to preside over and set the tone for the Senate, Ryan is the clear winner. Biden represented every petty partisan roadblock Americans have been forced to endure for so many years. Romney has proven bi-partisan abilities as governor, Ryan certainly represented the best of how mature lawmakers should behave.

    I give Ryan a hire.

That sounds like a stretch of an argument.
I think they appreciate having a leader finally stand up for them, after years of leadership that is not willing to stand up an be vocal, it was probably refreshing. They want someone on that side to call their opponents out for a change instead of taking slap after slap int he face like they do so often. When you consider Sarah Palins rude attacks and the way Dick Cheney used his dirty mouth time after time in public I don't think Biden was really all that bad.

Call out opponents "for a change"? This has been an veritable tennis court of name calling for more than 20 years. So, that's just funny. I don't care who ya are.

Oh boo, hoo. That Biden was just so rude and disrespectful.

So what do you RWNJ's call it it when Romney compared Obama to a "boy?"

That said, I thought it was a great debate. Both of them did better than either Romney or Obama. And it was nice to see Biden TAKE IT TO THEM AND FOR SOMEONE TO FINALLY CALL THE GOP OUT ON THEIR B.S.

Liberal Media will say anything to try to sway the vote because they are losing!
Biden is a joke always has been. Liberals are liars and need Tax money to keep the only jobs they can get which are bloated government jobs. How about someone mentioning the fact that in 1982 Biden voted for an amendment to abolish Roe vs Wade, now he acts like he has always been for it. Oh not to mention the fact that it was the Obama Administration that added more troops to Afghanistan not Bush like they try to imply. Lets also add the GM is financially unstable still, and most those record sales they like to use saying the stimulus was successful were guess what here it is, purchased by the US Government with all of our tax money!!! So not only did we bail them out we had to buy the vehicles after the bailout. What a sham and disgrace!!
