Joe Scarborough gave an impassioned, emotional plea in which he revealed his attitudes toward firearms and violent movies have changed since the slaughter in Newtown, CT. Watch the video, then tell me if you agree with his conclusions. What kind of laws could stop video game violence? Violent films? Guns that are used to kill people?

    yeah, those will save countless lives- and I emphasize the word countless.

    "Combat style weapons"-these people were defenseless, the murderer could have done the same thing with a shotgun, revolver, bolt action or lever action rifle or any number of different items. I also think arming teachers would possibly create problems rather than solve them considering how some kids and teachers act. Firearms seem to be the tool of choice for psychotic killers these days. One thing that might have prevented this is bars on the school windows but I'm sure the Fire Marshall wouldn't allow that. Just thinking about this makes me feel like throwing up.

    Bollocks. I own all of the above noted weapons and believe me, I could do a lot more damage with my Kalashnikov than, my shotgun, bolt actions, 10 round semi auto rifles, revolvers (even with speed loaders) and even my semi auto pistols (some of which are pretty high capacity). A semi auto rifle with a bunch of large mags is a beast of its own.

    I agree you could do a lot more damage with a semi auto rifle- my point was that he could have used any of those weapons to kill those kids. They were totally helpless in that situation. I feel sick again.

    Joe is, and always has been, a champion of the liberties that are foundational to this country. I think he is making a distinction between those liberties, and limitless freedoms. He has reached a point like we all do where that balance is out of whack. We all live within prescriptive limits for our and the greater good. The shock has changed his perspective. There are new limits that need to be discussed. To always say "there's no law that would've prevented this, so don't even try" is exactly his point that perfection cannot be the enemy of good. The dialog I'm hearing from the rational people is we aren't going to erradicate evil, but we can sure diminsh it.

    I believe they are even more restrictive than Canada.

    And, until Friday, we hadn't seen a mass killing of 6 year old kids in Connecticut, either. Nor in the entire USA. ........ Closest I can think of was Birmingham 1963 with 4 kids killed - and THAT was a bomb.

    You should notice that the People of Norway and Canada draw the correct lesson, NOT to legalize AR-15's.....but to retain their policies and monitor the right wing to a greater extent in the future.
