Too "sexy" or too dumb?
on January 24, 2013 @ 6:20 amThe new Mercedes ad has the marketing department pleased due to it's success at manufacturing public controversy. Thankful for click gold in the form of the heaving cleavage of supermodel Ms. Kate Upton, stories abound which ask the question, "is this ad too sexy?" I just thought it was cheesy. Upton is a beautiful woman, but the ad comes across with the subtlety of a "Go-Daddy" commercial or the infamous Carl's Jr. ad featuring Paris Hilton. This combined with the pop-techno "holiday" music I endured while shopping at Nordstrom's over Christmas would have me convinced elegance was dead were it not for the success of PBS's Downton Abbey.
Here's the ad (and the cleavage). How do you grade it and what's it selling you?
