Dr. Ben Carson: No Excuses

When I saw that Dr. Ben Carson was speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, I knew something good would come of it. His life story-- coming out of extreme poverty, his personal generosity (he's worked 6 days a week for decades to help the sick) and witness--never fail to leave a deep impression.

He is also fearless. He speaks his mind regardless of the fury the PC crowd will heap upon him.

Many are looking at Dr. Carson's speech and assume he was trying to "school" Obama or embarrass the president, but I don't think that's the case. Dr. Carson speaks with quiet deliberation. He's not throwing bombs, he's provoking thought. In this single speech he challenges the American people and our political leaders to think about:

1. Opportunity, not excuses

2. Refusing to be a victim.

3. the fairness of tax policy

4. What real health care reform would look like

5. The problem with PC speech codes

6. The power of parenting

7. The importance of learning and reading

8. The failures of our current education system

9. What civil discourse should look like.

I urge you to watch the speech (there's also a good movie about the Dr.'s life story starring Cuba Gooding Jr. that's worth watching). He does a better job explaining most concepts in under 2 minutes than any GOP Presidential Candidate did last year.

What's pathtic is that it's a lesson that BOTH sides should take to heart. It's not just a 'teach that moron Obama' something moment - it's a 'teach all the morons from both sides who think they are all that' moment. And for many on here, it's a teachable moment for them too. Particularly the "9. What civil discourse should look like." 'cuz alot of folks on here clearly don't have a clue what civil discourse looks like.

    @irony part 2...
Left a couple of words out of my first sentence that I shouldn't have. The first sentence should have read: "What's pathtic is that it's a lesson that BOTH sides should take to heart, but some will only use it to point fingers at the other side'"

Jarhead, you're right. Both sides should pay attention.
The joy for the right, here, is that the president obviously was not expecting such words of wisdom. ... Whether either He or the right takes heed, however, is questionable.

Even FOX will have forgotten all about it by Friday next.

Thanks Ron. Although I think Fox will have forgetten it by this Friday, unless somehow they get some traction on it. What's sad is that folks like Boze, Fox News, and many of the more right wing commentors on here would be screaming for the head of anyone who dared speak like that at a national prayer breakfast held in the past by Bush (either one) or if Romney had of won, at one held with him present. They love to allow someone to tear down the Democrat, but 'how dare they' even think about doing the same to a Republican'. We see this double standard behavior from them all the time. Yes, even democrats do it - however, as I recall, our mommas taught us a long, long time ago that 'he did it too' and 'he did it first' were no excuse for bad behavior on our part - and I know that our mommas also taught is that it that alibi is NEVER an allowance to behave badly. Yet Republicans and right wingers are reveling it in as standard behavior today AND using the dems behavior as an excuse to continue doing it.... (and I will certainly stand by my comment about people on here needing a teachable moment about civil discourse).

I agree with what he is saying
Don't have a problem at all with his speech, I also don't feel like he was trying to embarass the president. He was just trying to give a different perspective on the problems with this country. He is definitely a good guy doing good work, I don't see where his speech has to be a partisan speech. Anybody that think it was partisan is just a part of the problem that he is talking about.

    The narcissist was not happy
He does not like being upstaged like that. When the Dr. brought up the 16 1/2 trillion $ national debt @17:50, the narcissist could barely contain his rage.
