John Mellencamp’s “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.” is Washington state’s most popular song for Independence Day, according to Spotify.

“We started with a big pool of all the music included in the thousands of playlists on Spotify with “Fourth of July” in their titles,” Spotify said on its blog.

Then Spotify looked at how much people listened to those songs on Independence Day 2013 versus the following week.

“Miley Cyrus ‘Party in the USA’ showed up in Maine (and North Dakota). If I were in Maine right now, I’d just be ashamed,” said KTTH host David Boze.

Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA” sweeps the South and Midwest, Team America’s Tribute “America @#$% Yeah” shows up in California, Florida, and New Jersey. Texas listens to Robert Earl Keen’s “Fourth of July.”

“Other than the title, I’ve never understood the deep appeal of “Born in the U.S.A.,” Michael Medved said. Bruce Springsteen’s classic pops up in Massachusetts. “Frankly, I’ve never understood the deep appeal of Springsteen.”

Outside of the “Dancing in the Dark” video, featuring a young Courtney Cox, Boze said he could probably live without Springsteen’s contributions as well.

“This is one of my problems with Chris Christie. He’s so over the top for Springsteen,” Medved said.

Spotify also ranked the states by how much of the Fourth of July music they actually listened to. Washington ranks 30th. Washington D.C. came in first and Alaska was 51st.
