Would Romney have killed Osama Bin Laden?

The latest Obama ad questions whether Romney would have had the guts to pull the trigger on the Bin Laden operation. Bill Clinton narrates and describes the operation as one of those decisions almost no one else could make the call on.

Let's set aside the interesting part of the story which is that it was Bush-era measures that gained the intelligence needed to find out where Bin Laden was in this long-term operation (so much for the "Bush has forgotten Bin Laden" story line we were supposed to believe). I think even Jimmy Carter would have approved that operation.

I am glad Obama did it. It happened on his watch so he deserves credit for it. But other than Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, I don't know there's a major candidate of the last 8 years that I can't imagine making that call.

SIDE NOTE: Could having Clinton front and center be a trial run to see if adding Hillary to the ticket would be workable?

    Big difference
between saying you want to bring Bin Laden to justice and actually making the decision to put him down. Obama knew the heat that Clinton took for being a panzy. Obama supports infanticide, and eats dog meat. Being cold as ice, does not, by itself earn the reward of being re-elected. If that is all he has to run on, he is in trouble.

No republican would go after Bin Laden
They always need a boogeyman to unite their followers. Republicans are the party of fear.

Did Obama make the call or was it another type of call?
Did Obama really make the call? I’m not so sure. He treats the WH like his own personal playground. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lost track and thought he was playing “Call of Duty”.

You are not being so roomtemp-like!

Seems like you took Dave's comments personal. In my experience in life, not too many people will agree with EVERYTHING you hold close. Dave actually stuck up for "the cause", while making a side point that ruffled your feathers. This is typical in politics. :-(

Please, don't prove his comments true (re-read the WHOLE post{not this one, of course}), by your response.

I hope you will soon return to your roomtemp-like self.

The one whom I have grown to appreciate.....

I'm usually pretty even keel, apparently I came off a little too chippy that time. (I was a bit peeved.) Sorry bout that.

(I'm assuming you're talking about the post a couple of threads back about kicking the Paul supporters out of the caucus.)

I disagree that Dave stuck up for the cause. It was more like, gee, that's obviously wrong and I have to say so or I'll look like a total chode, but you Paul people should learn how to get along. That really chapped my hide.

Now again in this thread, Paul's position is totally misrepresented by Boze as 'wouldn't have killed Osama'. When the fact is he had no problem with killing Osama. He just prefers to get other countries permission (seeing as we're not at war with Pakistan) before sending troops across their borders. Is that an unreasonable position? No, it's the correct one. Paul's positions aren't derived from knee jerk talking points but from reason, history, and experience.

I noticed no reply to my hypothetical in this thread (Except of course messiah101 telling me how wacky Libertarians are again, even though he agreed. lol) Apparently Americans are so arrogant that we think we can send troops anywhere we please without reprisal.

"not too many people will agree with EVERYTHING_"

It's not a question of agreement it's a question of follow through. For instance, republicans chant about reduced debt and smaller government. Fine, I agree. But it never happens. Democrats say they want to bring the troops home and reduce defense spending. Fine, I agree. But it never happens. I tire of paying homage to lip service and agreeing with lies.

But, I guess I shouldn't feel too bad because Paul won Washington. In yer face Mittens! :-P

    Better and less confrontational idea...
Romney would have offered to rebuild the engine on his Mercedes if he would have kept quiet and not caused so much of a ruckus. My problem with Mitt isn't so much his politics, it's the fact that I think he's a watterbutt when it comes to stuff like....killing people..

    The Latest Romney News
Top Mitt Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom claimed that President Obama's auto bailout was the GOP presidential hopeful's idea.

Fehrnstrom said Obama followed Romney's course to help the auto industry during an appearance at a Saturday roundtable discussion hosted by the The Washington Post.

Gotta love that Etch a Sketch.

    Bin Laden call
My 87 year old mother would have made the call. Big wup. This fell in Barry's lap. The only credit deserved is the SEAL team who pulled it off. Everyone else were a bunch of spectators.

    Bin Laden Call
Your 87 year old mother would have said yes but add two Chinooks with combat troops?

Actually it was more than a go/no go thing. If you read up on it there were a number of options. They could have done the safe thing and just bombed the place into oblivion. When the decision to send troops in was made, Obama insisted on extra helicopters of troops in case they had to fight the Pakistanis. The extra helos came in handy as it turns out.

By the way, if the mission had failed the Republicans would have hung it around Obamas neck.

Nah, Romney woulda just bought OBL out.
And then, true to form, he would have offshored him. Oh wait, Obama already did that, right? Thousands of feet underwater offshore.

Obama had to clean up Bush's loose ends on this matter, like so many others. And Boze, your quote is hilarious where you said "Let's set aside the interesting part of the story which is that it was Bush-era measures that gained the intelligence needed to find out where Bin Laden was in this long-term operation." Let's assume for the moment the intel really was discovered during Bush's tenure. When you think about all the intelligence failures of the Bush WH that led up to 9/11 and later our invasion of Iraq (WMD, anyone?), then Bush can finally say at least he was correct on SOMETHING, namely OBL's location.

And then you said, "It happened on his watch so he deserves credit for it." Boze, the raid by SEAL team 6 didn't "just happen." Obama made a very bold and risky decision to send them in, one that could easily have backfired and cost him re-election.

The way you righties spin things and try to rewrite history never ceases to amaze me.

    What Mitt Said
“In the interview, Romney also said the country would be safer by only ‘a small percentage’ and would see ‘a very insignificant increase in safety’ if al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was caught because another terrorist would rise to power. ‘It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person,’ Romney said. Instead, he said he supports a broader strategy to defeat the Islamic jihad movement.” [Associated Press, 4/27/07]
