Interesting. Some of the states where youth unemployment is much *higher* than in Washington,
actually have much lower minimum wages.

I wonder if the relationship between minimum wage and youth employment is as cut and dried as the spokespeople on the video and the survey attempts to establish?

As for the guy who says he can't afford to hire any workers because he is paying B&O tax? Sir, FIRE YOUR MANAGER! If your manager can't get enough production and efficiency from employees to realize net productivity well in excess of the a fraction of a percent of their economic output, replace that failure with somebody who can.

    Immigration

I made my money as a youth in fast foods, construction as a laborer and lawn care, now all of those positions are filled with immigrant adults/youth, it use to be that the only adults when I was a kid in those industry were either the managers, skilled trade and/or owners.

That is no longer the case, youth have to compete against immigrants for jobs that use to provide youth with there spending change.

Adults willing to work for miniwage can be a better deal for a business....
Those adults willing to work for miniwage are probably available 8-10 hours per day, every day of the week. Not the case with students who want to work after school or during summer vacation.

It's no wonder that people who want part time hours are losing out to other applicants who will work full time for the same hourly rate.

Guess what, Sport, the economy is so bad a lot of Mexicans and Canadians have gone back home.
Had a guy cut my lawn last week. He said $20 - for what an 'immigrant' guy was charging me $50 last year. Guy was an Anglo - and a former real estate agent.

Probably IS work for teens, but not at the formal minimum wage places. And otherwise, they need to work for a lot less that they expected in the past.

    No strawberry pickers here..
This had to happen. Those children who are members of Generation "E" (the entitlement generation) are now officially somewhere in someones lost and found. They spent years during the good times being coddled, taken care of, accepted at all levels of acceptance...from game boy to play station and beyond. I have teens to early 20 somthings come into my business frequently looking for a job, any job. They cant communicate worth a dam n, don't/won't look you in the eye, cetainly arent dressed for the part and on the chance I may give them an application to fill out, have penmenship thats on par with what my kid was doing when he was 3 years old. I actually had a kid come in with a resume though. Except he spelled it with a "z". Are their exceptions? Of course. I just wish we had more of them..
