Kickstart this!!!
June 26, 2012 @ 4:33 pm (Updated: 5:37 pm - 6/26/12 )Conservatives often have much to complain about when it comes to modern art and the artistic community. But not this time. I first met Christ Hopkins, a local artist from Mukilteo, after he was commissioned by a friend of mine to paint a portrait of Ronald Reagan. Chris was nice enough to invite me into his studio where he showed me samples of his incredible work, including a poster for Indiana Jones, an album for Styxx, illustrations for fantasy novels, and portraits and other paintings for the U.S. Military and Native American tribes. His talent is truly stunning.
I also saw Chris' passion for honoring military veterans, specifically the Tuskegee Airmen, their support staff and their predecessors. Theirs is a story that has had limited exposure but shines as an example of honor, courage, and patriotism in the face of discrimination. Chris' work has captured the attention of living Tuskegee Airmen and historians that specialize in the subject. It has inspired those who have seen it, and Chris hopes to complete the body of work to educate and inspire future generations as well.
Chris is seeking to follow through on this project with private funds, which I think deserves applause. Up to this point, it has been solely a labor of love, but it's not possible to go on without support. I hope you watch his video and choose to support this project and please spread the link to it so that others who might appreciate this art have a chance to do so as well.
