VIDEO: Exiting the rampage at the Colorado Batman shooting

WARNING: This video is raw and contains some disturbing content.

Patrons with a cell phone shot this video of patrons fleeing the theater during the rampage at the Batman movie in Colorado. a couple of things strike me about it:

1. In spite of the shooting carnage, people are mulling around the glass doors just outside of the theater.

2. One man is holding a door open, but no one seems to think about propping open multiple doors for escape.

3. The young people filming the video seem oblivious to any danger from their being there.

4. Many people seem to still be holding their popcorn and pop and it looked like the ticket seller might still be in their booth--surreal!

    Once again...
I will now turn off the media vampires who seek to capitalize on the deaths of innocents and feast upon their corpses.

There is no political statement to be made. There is no commentary that needs to be given. There is nothing to be said, save a prayer for the lost and that God may grant solace and support to those that lost their loved ones.

    You make me sick...

    Dave,
What you are witnessing is perfectly typical human behavior for untrained people. People trained to react in emergency situations do much better because the training kicks in. Watch the aftermath of a vehicle crash some time. You will see some of the most irrational behavior.

Yes, I know it's not that unusual, but it seems to me that perhaps if while people are focused on this, they might be able to learn from it in the unlikely event that they too experience such a situation. Roomtemp: Clearly there is much to say about these things. People around the nation talk about these things when they happen because it causes us to reflect on the nature of evil, the human condition, our mortal selves, public policy, grief, and many other things. The video shown is from PEOPLE WHO WERE THERE, so it's tough to call it vampirism. Even saying "there is no statement to be made...save a prayer for the lost and that God may grant solace" is you acknowledging that you feel something needs to be said. You just disagree about the what.

"The video shown is from PEOPLE WHO WERE THERE, so it's tough to call it vampirism."

No, it's not. We all know how to use the search function in youtube. This was the blog equivalent of slowing down at a traffic accident to see the roadside carnage.

People talking around the nation is fine. They aren't making money from the speech. The news agencies were all over this with 24/7 coverage from the get go. Because the almighty quest for ratings (money) is more important than any human consideration. If it bleeds, it leads, right? If it bleeds a lot, we need to play it all day every day. We need to know if the ticket taker was wearing polyester. We need to know how popcorn sales were that night... Milk it baby! I smell a few 2hr feature presentations in the works.

Incidentally, a personal prayer to God is a little different form of 'speech' than TV or radio hosts debating the merits of gun control to sell laundry detergent.

Don't take that as a purely personal indictment. That was a slam on all 'news' media. That's OK, I know where the off switch is. I haven't missed the TV at all this week, radio only a little. Is it safe to come back yet?

How about a nice story on Liborgate? -crickets-

    Same thoughts
I had the same thoughts as you, Dave, and then I read your post. I guess people have become really desensitized to danger. This milling around chaos reaction sure does explain the average Obama supporter though.
