Police are investigating an early morning fatal officer-involved shooting at Gas Works Park in Seattle.
Seattle police officers responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. at the park by a worker who said he’d been assaulted by a man who had been drinking.
When officers contacted the suspect, he became combative and threatened them with a broken bottle.
Cops used a Taser but say when it had no affect on the suspect, they fired multiple rounds.
Assistant Chief Nick Metz said the man, with broken bottle in hand, then charged a third officer.
“That third officer was backing up at the time and may have tripped or something like that and fell down. And actually, as the suspect was approaching after he’d been shot, (he) fell on top of the officer,” he said.
The man was hit several times and taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
