Dan Wilson and Jay Buhner lead the way as local celebrities join United Way of King County, the Seattle Mariners and Bonneville Seattle at the second annual All-Star Softball Classic for Homeless Youth, on Saturday, June 21st at Safeco Field.

Youth are homeless for three reasons: Home doesn’t exist, home isn’t safe or home isn’t supportive. On any given night, 1,000 kids and young adults are alone on King County’s streets.

“And we feel like that is not acceptable,” says Mariners Hall of Famer Dan Wilson.

Wilson and Jay Buhner will take the field Saturday at Safeco Field along with a number of local celebrities, including former SuperSonic Gary Payton, Seahawk Cliff Avril, KIRO Radio’s Don O’Neill and other big names for the second annual All-Star Softball Classic for Homeless Youth, presented by Microsoft.

Wilson joined Ron and Don to tout his team, and share the secrets about what players really talk about in those meetings at the mound:

The five-inning celebrity softball event will have all the trimmings of a game at Safeco Field, full of action, laughs, and surprises. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m. at Safeco Field!

Last year’s event helped raise $1.2 million for homeless youth, and Wilson says the goal is even higher for this year.

“Really, it’s about the kids,” Wilson says. “And at the end of the day, we’re hoping to help some struggling kids and give them a helping hand.”
