A man and woman were killed and two people injured in a head-on collision on SR 522 near Monroe Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told state troopers at the scene they saw a Mitsubishi Eclipse drift into the right shoulder, hit a construction barrel, overcorrect, and cross the center line.

The Eclipse slammed into a Ford Fusion heading westbound on SR 522.

A female passenger in the Fusion was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center, but has died.

A man and small child in the Eclipse were also taken to Harborview. The child was in a car seat in the back seat.

Detours were set up at Monroe westbound and at Fales Road eastbound.

Troopers are investigating why the Eclipse crossed the road.
