It will be tough getting in or out of Seattle this weekend.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has planned closures on the 520 bridge, Interstate 5 and SR-99.
“It looks like a lot of closures all at once, and it really is,” says WSDOT’s Bart Treece. “But at the same time, it’s coordinated to keep traffic moving.”
According to Treece, your best bet is to give yourself some extra time to get where you’re going. He also says to remember that during the middle of the day, you will find heavier traffic on alternate routes into, or out of, the city.
The two right lanes of northbound I-5 at the West Seattle Freeway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to replace aging expansion joints. Additionally, from 3:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings, up to two northbound lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed for deck patching.
Southbound SR 99 from Denny Way to South Spokane Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to shift southbound traffic onto a new alignment through the SR 99 tunnel project site.
Both directions of SR 520 will be closed between Montlake Boulevard and Interstate 405 from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing bridge work.
