A King County Sheriff’s spokesman says a 68-year-old woman is in jail after an SUV plowed through a waterfront home, killing one person and seriously injuring two others.

“For whatever reason her vehicle shot through her house and went all the way through and exited out the house partially going into Lake Sammamish,” says King County Sheriff’s Sgt. DB Gates. “Unfortunately, when it went through the house, she struck three people that were in the house, one of which died.”

The driver and a 3-year-old that was in the car were uninjured. Gates identified the man killed as the driver’s 70-year-old husband. The other two people injured were her daughter and son-in-law.

Gates says the woman was booked into jail early Saturday for investigation of one count vehicular homicide and two counts vehicular assault. Results from toxicology tests are pending.

She said detectives are reconstructing what happened. The investigation will take time, Gates says, as investigators try to determine just what led up to the crash.

“Detectives are going to be looking at everything,” says Gates. “They’re going to be looking at it from the angle of was it mechanical, was it operator error, was there something else going on around her at the time. They’re going to look at all angles.”
