Two State Patrol troopers are recovering at home after crashing their patrol cars into each other early Tuesday morning in Lynnwood.
The troopers were responding to a report of a stolen car and a chase when they collided just after midnight at Maple Road and Ash Way.
“Basically, two troopers who aren’t part of the pursuit who were coming from other parts of the county to become involved in the pursuit, collided in an intersection,” said Washington State Patrol spokesman Mark Francis.
The t-bone crash gave one trooper a concussion and a broken finger. The other trooper suffered abrasions. They were hospitalized and then sent home to recover, said Francis.
Earlier, the State Patrol had pulled over a Dodge Avenger in the South Everett-Lynnwood area. The car came up as stolen and the 27-year-old driver from Normandy Park was arrested.
Francis said one of the two passengers got behind the wheel and sped away, eventually heading southbound on I-5 into King County with speeds reaching 120 miles per hour.
At some point, Francis said a State Patrol sergeant called off the chase.
