Widow of Greenwood victim recounts night of murder

Update: Seattle police late Friday served a search warrant at a home in the Greenwood neighborhood in connection with the murder of David Peterson. No arrests were made but detectives collected evidence from the scene.

The wife of a 54-year-old man shot and killed in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood Sunday night says her husband was out for his daily walk and she got worried when he didn’t return.

Kimberly Peterson tells KING 5 her husband of almost 22 years, “went out the back door and said, ‘I’ll be back in an hour.’ And he just didn’t come back home.”

Police found David Peterson in a car with a single gunshot wound in the parking lot near North 85th and 1st Avenue NW. Investigators say they’re looking for three suspects: a white female and two black males – one is 20-30 years old, 5’10 tall with a thin build.

Police say the three suspects, believed to be tied to a robbery in the area that night, were spotted running from the scene.

Kimberly told KING she called and texted her husband around 1 a.m. but got no response. She called 911 around 3 a.m. and told dispatchers he left the house around 11 p.m.

David Peterson was killed at about 8:30 p.m, but Kimberly told KING she was fuzzy on the time David left the house because she doesn’t “think about time – I don’t keep track.”

She said she checked jail records and the police blotter where she saw the story about a shooting and knew that had to be him.

Peterson’s wallet was on him, but detectives say his cell phone was stolen.

“I was his best friend and he was my best friend,” Kimberly told KING.
