High winds cause power outages, knock over old barn

Feb 12, 2014, 7:39 AM | Updated: 12:23 pm

High winds from a series of Pacific storms knocked out power for some Seattle residents overnight, and also caused a historic barn in Lakewood to fall to the ground.

Gusty winds pushed a tree into a power line in Northeast Seattle, knocking out electricity for thousands of Seattle City Light customers, according to a utility spokesman. Power was restored to most customers by Wednesday morning.

In addition the the power outages, the wind was also responsible for knocking down a century-old barn in Fort Steilacoom Park.

Lakewood city officials say no one was hurt when the building collapsed and they have fenced off the area and are planning its removal.

KING 5’s Rich Marriott says winds will diminish Wednesday, and we’ll see a few sun breaks. But steady rain is expected to return Wednesday afternoon, followed by a return of the wind overnight.

“It looks like that series of storms continues to march through here about every 24 to 36 hours,” says Marriott.
