Seahawks plan Seattle parade to celebrate Super Bowl win

A parade to honor the Super Bowl champion Seahawks is set for Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in downtown Seattle.
The parade route starts on Denny Way (outside the EMP museum), and travels south down 4th Avenue through Westlake Park, finishing at the north entrance to CenturyLink Field.

Parade start: 11:00 a.m. at Fourth Avenue near Denny Way Parade end: 1:30 p.m. at CenturyLink Field Who will be there: Seahawks, Blue Thunder, Sea Gals, Blitz, 300,000 fans Traffic: Expect the worst. Pine Street west of 9th Avenue will close at about 7 a.m. Fourth Ave. will be closed at about 10 a.m. until the parade ends. Parking: There will be limited parking at CenturyLink Field. Transportation: When Fourth Ave. is closed, Metro will not be able to cross at any location except Yesler Way. King County Metro has rerouted about 33 bus routes. Check alerts Century Link Light Rail will operate every 7.5 minutes all day. The Sounder train added extra cars and trips. Who will be at the parade?
At least 300,000 people are expected to attend.
Seahawks players, Coach Pete Carroll, the Sea Gals, Blitz, and Blue Thunder will be in attendance, along with city and state officials including Mayor Murray, Gov. Jay Inslee and King County Executive Dow Constantine.
Assistant Chief Paul McDonagh told KIRO Radio it’s all hands on deck for Seattle Police.
“Since 1979 when the Sonics won their championship, we haven’t had an event this large in the city,” he said.
The Seahawks
Kyle Moore with Seattle Fire said those riding in the parade will be carried in Ride the Ducks vehicles.
“They’re all going to be sitting in Ducks,” said Moore. “So they’re going to be sitting high off the ground, so no matter if you’re in the front row or you’re eight rows back, you’re going to get a good view of the players. You’re going to get a good view of the coaches.”
“Go Hawks! I just love it. It’s amazing for the Ducks and we’re so proud to be a part of this,” said Ride the Ducks of Seattle owner Brian Tracy.
Along with the Ducks, the Washington National Guard will escort the Seahawks, coaches, and elected officials.
“We are so honored that the Seahawks and the Seafair organization asked us to help out with this celebration,” said Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty, the state’s adjutant general and commander of the Washington National Guard.
Moore said everyone is happy to put this together to celebrate all the Seahawks’ hard work, and also give the 12th Man a chance to welcome their team home.
“They want everyone to be part of this,” said Moore. “As Coach Carroll said right after that win, the 12s were a big part of this winning season and they want to make sure they pay back to all the people that supported them.”
He reminded parade-goers to stay on the sidewalks and asked them to refrain from bringing confetti, streamers, or anything to throw.
“We want to keep the city as beautiful, as clean as possible,” said Moore.
Super Bowl Celebration at CenturyLink Field
Following the parade, a Super Bowl celebration will be held at CenturyLink Field. Season ticket holders got the chance to buy tickets to the event Tuesday morning, but the event is sold out. Seats are not assigned. Gates open at 10:30.
To accommodate the unprecedented interest, Seahawks fans were invited to watch the event on the large screen inside neighboring Seafeco Field, which is at capacity. Tickets sold out around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

KIRO Radio and 710 ESPN Seattle will host a live broadcast from the parade route and CenturyLink Field. Following the celebrations, 710 ESPN Seattle will re-air Super Bowl XLVIII from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
