Seahawk Derrick Coleman surprises hearing-impaired girls with Super Bowl seats

Jan 30, 2014, 11:51 AM | Updated: 1:50 pm

The Seahawks Derrick Coleman has become one of the break-out stars of the postseason, thanks to his inspiring story of overcoming deafness to make it to the NFL. The story keeps getting better.

A Duracell commercial profiling Coleman has taken the country by storm and touched millions including two young New Jersey sisters who both are both hearing-impaired.

“I know how you feel,” one of the twins, 9-year-old Riley Kovalcik, wrote to Coleman in a letter her father posted on Twitter. “I also have hearing aids. Just try your best. I have faif [sic] in you.”

“He’s really a hero. It’s amazing,” her father Jake told the Morning News on KIRO Radio after Coleman wrote a heartfelt response to the girls.

Little did they know Coleman would do more than just send them a note.

The fullback gave them the thrill of their life when he surprised them this week as they appeared on “Good Morning America” to share their story.

The girls said it would be a dream come true to meet their hero and their reaction was priceless as Coleman appeared.

“Oh my gosh, are you really?,” said a clearly overwhelmed Erin.

But Coleman made it even better than they could have imagined. He told the girls he and Duracell were inviting them and the rest of their family to watch him play in the Super Bowl.

“Really?” and “Seriously?” were at first the only words the stunned twins could utter. Eventually they gave their hero a hug and a big “thank you.”
