No dogs allowed: I don’t want a Pekingese hovering over the produce in the grocery store

There are lots of stores that welcome dogs inside. There’s a great little hardware store, Town Center Hardware in Lake Forest Park. They love it if you bring your dog in the store. They have little doggie treats at the cash register. My dog, Star, always knows she’s about to get a little something when she goes in there. It’s the same thing at the Chase Bank where we go. The tellers have little dog biscuits there. I don’t have problems bringing Star into some places of business where dogs are welcome.

But at the grocery store – I would never bring Star into the grocery store.

And it’s hard for us to leave Star outside. She’s an Australian Blue Heeler, shepherd dog. And shepherd dogs, they watch over their flock, that is their mission in life. So when they’re separated from their flock, they go nuts. If my wife and I decide to tie Star up outside and both go into the store, Star will yelp incessantly. I mean she will just scream because her masters are gone from her side and it drives her nuts. It makes her brain go crazy because that is what she is on earth for. So inevitably, my wife or I will wait outside with Star while the other one goes into the grocery store because we would never be such horrible people to bring our dog into the grocery store.

Jason Rantz:

“I guarantee you there’s more dangerous stuff on that vegetable than what the dog brought in.”

So last night, my wife is waiting outside with Star, I’m running in grabbing a couple things and I see a woman in the produce aisle holding a little rat dog – you know like a Pekingese. And no offense to those who own Pekingese, but they are closer to rodent than canine.

So she’s holding a Pekingese in her left arm, while with her right hand she’s picking up apples and turning them around, setting them down. Then she walks and I see her stroking her dog’s head and then she goes and picks up a cucumber with the same hand.

And you know what I said? Nothing.

I see this all the time now and they’re not just service animals – and by the way, 90 percent of service animals are bogus. You see people walking into the clothing store with their service goat. They don’t even have the vest, they’re not even pretending they’re service animals.

It somehow has become acceptable to bring dogs into grocery stores. I’ve seen it five times in the last couple of months. It’s not sanitary. I do not want a Pekingese hovering over the apples. We shouldn’t be bringing the doggies into the grocery store.

What do you think?
