Sound Transit is giving voters a peek into its plans for the future of Puget Sound light rail in hopes of gaining approval from area voters.
If enacted, a rider could potentially get from Dupont to Everett without the need for a car; and that’s just south to north. It aims to not only stretch farther than the current north and south lines, but also extend light rail’s reach east to cities such as Bellevue, Redmond and Issaquah. Other projects would put lines to Ballard and West Seattle. Bus and Sounder Commuter Rail projects are also in the mix. The overall plan comes with a $50 billion price tag and looks as far ahead as 2041.

Sound Transit launched its Sound Transit 3 website on March 24. It details maps and projects that could be included in future voter-approved additions to the light-rail system after the agency completes its second phase.
This is the first glimpse at what Sound Transit will potentially propose to voters on the November 2016 ballot as part of the Sound Transit 3 plan. The map and other details are currently considered drafts, and won’t be considered official unless approved by voters.
