New Jersey Senator Cory Booker joined Michael Medved while passing through Seattle, promoting his book “United.” Medved asked about the presidential campaigns &#8212 in particular, Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Booker has been spoken of as a potential running mate for Clinton.

Medved asked Booker how he would advise Clinton on her choice for vice president.

“I think that all of us as Americans want that choice to be made &#8212 and we’ve seen it not made this way &#8212 as who can be President of the United States,” Booker said. “Should something horrible happen, who can step into that office?”

“If you pick somebody just for political purposes because they can help you win and they end up, suddenly, in that role you really do a disservice to your nation,” he said. “I don’t think I have to advise her because I think this will be a guiding principle to her. You want somebody who is capable and ready to lead, has the maturity to hold that office and the values necessary for this nation.”

And if not him, who would Booker like to see as vice president in a Clinton presidency? He didn’t have to think long.

“Tim Kaine is probably one of my favorite people in the Senate,” Booker said. “He’s a senator from Virginia, (former chair of the Democratic National Committee), he’s also a former mayor, which I think is the hardest job in America, and a former governor, so he’s had a big executive job. He’s been a senator and his foreign policy jobs are impeccable … he’s a guy who is very experienced on national security.”
