King County officials say that they want to send a sales tax increase to the voters or else they’re going to have to cut Metro transit bus routes.
They say that the low-ridership routes may be cut if they don’t raise the sales tax. And my response to that is if they’re low ridership, then cut them.
But they say that the way to avoid that is with a massive sales tax increase here in King County. It would be 1/10th of a percent. They want to raise the car tabs, too. It would be $60 more on your car tabs. All this to save bus routes.
I have an idea, bus riders, why don’t you pay more for your bus ride? Or, here’s my other idea for King County: King County, why don’t you raise everybody else’s sales tax to help pay for my gas in my car. Why don’t you raise everybody else’s taxes for that? Why do they have to raise the sales tax for bus riders?
Bus riders have a higher average income than the average for King County as a whole. So we have to raise the taxes on everybody, the poor, the middle class included, to pay for people that have an above average income?
No. Let the bus riders pay more at the fare box. Problem solved.
