When it comes to the 12th Man, it’s pretty clear fans are more than willing to put their money where their mouths are. Bidding for the first official Seattle Seahawks license plate with the number 12 has now reached $42,000 and counting as of Thursday morning.
The license plate is among the first 24 available in a special auction before the State of Washington releases the highly-anticipated Seattle Seahawks license plates to the public on January 1, 2014.
Bidders can stake their claim to any of the plates numbered 0002-25 until the auction closes Friday Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The coveted number 1 plate goes to the Seahawks.
All of the proceeds go to InvestED, a statewide organization that partners with more than 650 schools to provide immediate help to individual students in need with things like athletic fees, choir robes, eyeglasses or graduation expenses, to help them stay engaged and in school.
Last year, InvestED helped 18,213 students in 661 secondary schools throughout Washington.
The next popular plate after the coveted 12 is number 24, no doubt inspired by “Beast Mode.” The Marshawn Lynch plate was going for $1,600 at last check Wednesday afternoon.
Those fans that want to sport the Seahawks plate but can’t afford the auction, can apply for one with a random number or personalization through the Department of Licensing.
The Seahawks license plate will cost $67.75 for passenger vehicles, $49.75 for motorcycles and small trailers, and $55.75 for a large trailer.
